What is fire cupping?
Traditional technique, deep release.
Fire cupping therapy is a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique that uses gentle suction on the skin to release deep muscular tension, improve circulation, support detoxification, and aid recovery.
At Dragon Qi Medicine in Creston, cupping is offered two ways: as a focused 30-minute standalone treatment, or applied at the end of a full acupuncture session, where it is especially beneficial for muscular tension, pain, stagnation, stress, athletic recovery, and lingering lung congestion or illness.
Cupping commonly leaves temporary circular marks on the skin. They are part of the therapeutic healing process and fade on their own within days.
Two ways to book it
- Fire Cupping Therapy: a focused 30-minute standalone treatment, no needles used
- Acupuncture & Fire Cupping: a full acupuncture session with therapeutic cupping applied at the end
What is cupping good for?
Cupping is the treatment Creston patients reach for when tension and recovery are the story:
- Deep muscle tightness and tension
- Chronic and acute pain
- Stagnation and poor circulation
- Stress held in the body
- Athletic recovery
- Lingering respiratory congestion after illness
- Detoxification support

What does a session look like?
-
Assess
A brief check-in locates where tension, pain, or congestion is living in your body and confirms cupping is the right tool that day.
-
Treat
Cups are applied with gentle suction across the affected areas. In the combined session, cupping follows your full acupuncture treatment.
-
Recover
Expect temporary circular marks, part of the therapeutic process. Most fade within days as circulation does its work.

Hospital-trained. Home-grown.
Dr. Lindsay Fox is a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner and Acupuncturist with a Doctorate of TCM and hospital training at Chengdu University of TCM in China, where cupping is practiced daily alongside acupuncture as part of the complete medicine.
That training matters: cupping placed with a full understanding of the meridian system, your health history, and your goals is a different treatment than cups applied to wherever it hurts.
Questions
Good to know.
Does cupping leave marks?
Yes, commonly. Temporary circular marks on the skin are part of the therapeutic healing process and typically fade on their own within days. They are not bruises from injury and most patients find the treatment relieving.
Should I book cupping alone or with acupuncture?
The 30-minute standalone treatment is ideal for focused muscle tension and recovery. The combined session treats the whole system first with acupuncture and finishes with cupping, which suits pain, stress, and lingering congestion. Unsure? Mention it in your request.
Are needles used in standalone cupping?
No. The standalone Fire Cupping Therapy treatment uses no acupuncture needles. If you want both, book the Acupuncture & Fire Cupping session, where cupping is applied at the end of a full acupuncture treatment.
Can cupping help after a chest cold?
Lingering lung congestion or illness is one of the traditional uses of fire cupping, alongside muscular tension and recovery. Dr. Lindsay Fox will assess whether cupping fits your situation, and refers anything outside her scope to your physician.
